Hi…My BH&G cookbook is from 1971 and the recipe is:
CHOCOLATE CHIPPERS
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
…….
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 6oz. package ( 1 cup ) semisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 broken nuts
Oven 375 degrees
Cream shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla till light and fluffy. Stir together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture; blend well. Add chocolate and nuts.
Drop from teaspoon 2″ apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven ( 375 degrees ) 10-12 minutes. Remove from sheet immediately. Makes 3 dozen
