Make A Great Cookbook Cover
Like it or not, most people still tend to judge a book by its cover – and this goes double for cookbooks. Here are some tips for creating a great cover for your cookbook.
Title
When you are starting to consider what the title of your cookbook might be, one thing to keep in mind is that you will want to be as specific as you can while using the smallest amount of words. As great a chef as you are, unless you have a name that is known at least on a regional level, you will probably want to avoid referring to yourself in the title. If you are trying to gain the right kind of attention or place your cookbook within a certain niche, you’ll probably rather have the focus on the cuisine, or whatever aspect of your cookbook you are using to market it. Subtitles can help to clarify the mission of your cookbook as well. For example you could have the main title “Great 20-Minute Meals” with the subtitle “The Cookbook For Multi-Tasking Chefs.”
Design
1. When it comes to designing the cover of your cookbook, the first thing you might want to do is to have a look around at some of the covers you like, and give some thought as to what it is that you like about them. The font that you choose can go a long way in conveying what your general theme is. For instance, if your cookbook is designed for college students or young people in general, you will likely want to choose a fun, sans-serif font that conveys fun and simplicity. If, on the other hand your cookbook contains gourmet recipes from France, you might want to find a font that is more stately. You can have a lot of fun with fonts, and once you start to notice them, you will see how much the right font on a cover can communicate about the contents of the book.
2. When it comes to graphics and photography, you may be well served to stick to the relevant and even literal. Keep in mind that a cover is basically a marketing device, and so people are looking for benefits and results. In the case of a cookbook, there are a number of ways to go about it: you can have a high-resolution, beautiful photograph of a finished dish, or an attractive shot of some of the ingredients together, or even something that addresses the broader theme of the cookbook, such as, to use our previous example, a group of young people having a great time cooking and eating dinner together.
3. When it comes to the overall color scheme and layout, you want to attract the eye without abusing the privilege. Colors that tend to the bright are great, but you want to make sure that you don’t go overboard. Letters over photography is a tried and true method, and if you go with that, make sure that you use colors in your lettering that can be easily discerned, and that do not blend with the image in the background.

Parents of Suicides Internet Community $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Started on October 9, 1998 POS was created by an initial group of 810 parents who had lost children to suicide. They were looking for other parents who had had similar tragedies in order to help everyone cope with their losses using the internet as a medium. Since then, with POS as a connecting force, they have created the first international suicide memorial quilt, a memorial website and a memorial book called Forever in Our Hearts. Theyve also written a memorial cookbook and have a private chatroom for POS members. As the community has expanded they have branched out and in 2000 they held their first retreat in Pavo, Georgia (USA). Now they do two retreats annually in the spring and fall which are held in Columbia, Tennessee (USA). Despite the fact that the retreats are in the United States, POS has members from all over the world including France, England, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Namibia, Wales and South Africa. POSs membership currently stands at nearly 900 members internationally. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. The Homesick Texan Cookbook By Fain, Lisa $32.1 Lisa Fain moved from Texas to Manhattan and in 2005 started her awardwinning website, homesicktexan.com, for expatriate Texans like herself. Now in The Homesick Texan Cookbook, she includes stories and photographs that will both reconnect and introduce people to the joy of Texas, and 150 versatile recipes that highlight the states rich food traditions, appropriate for both Texans and nonTexans alike. Texan food isnt overly complicatedits palette is based on indigenous ingredients such as chiles, cilantro, citrus, tomatoes, tomatillos, seafood, beef, pecans, peaches, and beans. The recipes are authentic, either created through experimentation, or culled and adapted from family, friends, and old community cookbooks. Fain also updates and modernizes some of the classics; she has been known to replace the ubiquitous cream of mushroom soup in King Ranch Chicken with a creamy bTchamel sauce; the liquid smoke common in baked barbecue briskets with chipotle chiles and smoked paprika; and the Velveeta in chile con queso with cream and cheddar. Her recipes range from a simple enchilada sauce requiring chiles, aromatics and broth; ice cream made up of nothing more than cream, eggs and sugar; and chickenfried steak made with a simple batter of flour, eggs and milk to more complex dishes, all with an emphasis (whenever possible) on local ingredients. The power of these dishes is that other Texans love them as well, and making them helps all of us feel closer to the state that we love, whether we are there or not. Yet despite the nostalgic tug, these recipes are accessible to anyone even if they dont have a relationship with Texas, since Texan food is alive with flavor as well as comfort Author: Fain, Lisa Publication Date: 2011/09/13 Number of Pages: 357 Binding Type: Hardcover Language: English Depth: 1.25 Width: 7.75 Height: 10.00 |

Community Organizing $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Community organizing is a process by which people living in proximity to each other are brought together in an organization to act in their shared selfinterest. Unlike other forms of more consensual community building, community organizers generally assume that social change necessarily involves conflict and social struggle in order to generate collective power for the powerless. A core goal of community organizing is to generate durable power for an organization representing the community, allowing it to influence key decisionmakers on a range of issues over time. In the ideal, for example, this can get community organizing groups a place at the table before important decisions are made. Community organizers work with and develop new local leaders, facilitating coalitions and assisting in the development of campaigns.
