For supporting Broadway Cares, would this be considered community service?
For high school, I have to do a big community service project. I am heavily involved with the drama program and I really want to perform our play from our recent competition as a fundraiser. I am going to donate 100% of the profit to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Is this community service? What argument could I make to support that it is?
Of course it is. Broadway Cares has raised lots of money for AIDS research and to help those who have AIDS. It is a recognized not-for profit charity sponsored by Actors Equity. By raising money for this you are doing a service for the “larger ” community. They may want you to do this for a local community, but I think it is a wonderful Idea even if you don’t live in NYC. (Unless you do live in NYC.)
