How would you rate Mark Bittman’s cookbook, “How to Cook Everything”?

I wouldn’t. Over the years, I’ve come to learn that cookbooks by celebrity authors are not necessarily all they are cracked up to be. The inherent problem with any book is that the reader is not taught how to be free of the book. Cooking at home should never be about following the letter of the recipe but instead should be about cooking from the heart and feeding those people you love. The best cookbook is the one that makes itself obsolete by teaching you how to need it not. That is bad for cookbook publishing houses and businesses.

I would rate his book an average, adequate, middle of the road, same as all the others. Show me the book that makes itself unecessary and I’ll rate it a top book.
