I think that to challenge accepted conventions we first need to know what they are. We can’t really learn anything by just looking at what breaks the conventions.
Conventions should only be broken when there is a good reason to believe that they are bad.
I think that to develop an understanding in an area, we need to know both the conventional attitudes and the criticisms/alternatives so that we can judge what is best based on evidence.
